Former CFC President James (Jim) Gordon Passes Away
Jim served as President of the Consumer Federation of California from 2000 to 2018, where he oversaw the restructuring and growth of the organization.
Jim was a labor leader who started as a rank and file member of the Communications Workers of America while employed at Pacific Telephone and Telegraph in the East Bay starting in 1960. After serving in the Army, assigned to NATO headquarters in Turkey, he returned to the phone company and served in several elected union positions, including President of CWA Local 9412. Jim was elected to the Fremont City Council in 1978. In 1984 Jim joined the staff of the Communications Workers of America where he served for many years as Legislative/Political Director for California, Nevada and Hawaii, headquartered in Sacramento, California. Jim served as a member of the California Democratic Party Central Committee and as Chair of the CDP Labor Caucus. He was elected as a Vice President of the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO.
Jim was a person who lived life to its fullest. He was blessed to have a family he loved and cherished. Jim was a champion for working people, a powerful force in the consumer movement and a fighter for all that is best in America.
