Consumer Federation of California

On this #GivingTuesday, we humbly ask you to help the Consumer Federation of California (CFC) continue our groundbreaking work to protect consumers by donating to our cause!

Your gift today will not only help CFC continue our work, but allow us to grow in 2025 to meet the increasing needs as consumer protection likely comes under attack from the incoming Trump administration 2.0. 

Key incoming Trump administration officials like Elon Musk have already threatened to completely eliminate entities like the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which CFC has done groundbreaking collaborations with. This makes California the front line of the fight to protect consumers.

For 64 years, CFC has been a powerful voice for consumer rights. We are a non-profit advocacy organization that relies on donations from our members and supporters to further our work fighting for you!

With your support, CFC had an extremely successful 2024, sponsoring or co-sponsoring 8 pieces of key legislation signed into law, including:

• Strongest in the nation protections allowing consumers to click or call to cancel their automatic subscriptions without spending hours chasing a company down (our CA protections are even stronger than the brand new ones just announced by the Federal Trade Commission);
• Largely eliminating medical debt from a consumer’s credit report;
• Continuing CFC’s groundbreaking work to reduce and eliminate junk and hidden fees in the financial services industry and taking an important first step in the rental housing market (more to come!);
• Giving small businesses, particularly microbusinesses, desperately needed relief from predatory debt collection practices that can ruin a small business;
• Cracking down on predatory mortgage fraud and giving desperate consumers a lifeline to avoid foreclosure (and the ability to receive some of their equity gains in the case of foreclosure)
• First in the nation enhanced privacy protections for domestic violence survivors to keep them safer from being tracked and harmed in their vehicles.

Our work simply can’t happen without your support. CFC takes on the tough fights against wealthy corporate behemoths that must be waged – pitting us against some of the riches special interests in California and the nation.
