CFC Supports SB 885 (Corbett) – Gift Certificate Redemption
Status: As of 6/1 SB 885 is on its third reading on the Senate Floor
Summary: SB 885 would allow consumers to redeem the remaining value of their gift card if the cash value is up to $20 and requires a statement on the gift card about the law, thereby giving consumers greater control over their own money. The bill will also prohibit any fees on gift cards. While consumers gained new rights under SB 250 (Corbett 2007) many retailers are refusing to comply with the law. SB 885 will improve compliance with current law because consumers and retailers will know and follow the law because it will be printed on the gift card.
