A statement from Consumer Federation of California’s Executive Director, Robert Herrell:

“The Consumer Federation of California is extremely pleased with the jury verdict today in the Live Nation/Ticketmaster monopoly case, where a jury found that Live Nation and Ticketmaster are a monopoly.  

The jury found that Live Nation and Ticketmaster grossly overcharged fans and actively stifled competition, things that every single consumer already knew to be true based on their experiences with the monopoly. 

Now the Judge will decide on the remedies, which is to say, how to make this right for consumers and how to limit the abusive power of the legally confirmed Live Nation/Ticketmaster monopoly. CFC looks forward to seeing this process unfold. We have supported the breaking up of the monopoly for a number of years now. 

In the meantime the Legislature should absolutely refrain from taking any action that would strengthen the monopoly and harm what little competition there is against the monopoly.”
