Secret deal could cheapen auto repairs

by Mike Finney, KGO - ABC News 7

In Sacramento, Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones and consumer groups held a press conference claiming there is backdoor wheeling and dealing going on and it could reduce the quality of your auto repairs.

Jones and the Consumer Federation of California claim insurance companies are working behind the scenes at the capitol to weaken consumer protection laws at the last minute of the legislative session.

They say companies want to water down state laws that now require insurance companies to pay for high quality parts to repair cars after a crash.

We contacted the Personal Insurance Federation of California which represents several auto insurance companies. A person who answered the phone said the organization had no comment about the claims.
